The China Food & Catering Expo 2018 was successfully held in Changsha, Hunan in September 13-16, 2018, which was co-hosted by Ministry of Commerce and Hunan provincial government
This exhibition area covered 81,000 square meters, with an increase of 35% year on year. The exhibitors reached 1,500, with an increase of 25%. The visitors reached 150,000, with an increase of 22%. Special food and catering enterprises from 27 countries and regions, 29 provinces (municipalities, autonomous regions), cities and Human Province’s 14 cities and counties showed up at the expo. Over a hundred organizations sent professional buyers here and remarkable outcomes have been achieved in the matchmaking of the purchasing.
Guided by President Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the expo seriously implemented the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress. With the theme of “innovative integration and quality consumption”, the business center focused on "brand development", "consumption upgrading", “the Belt and Road” and “Poverty Alleviation through E-commerce”. By means of exhibitions, conference forums and events, a platform for information exchange, trade docking and innovation development in food and beverage industry has been built.
I. Pay attention to the construction of independent brands and promote Chinese traditional culture
The 2018 China International Food and Catering Expo themed on “the Inheritance and Development of the China Time-honored Brands” was held to showcase the food making skills of the China time-honored brands and inherit their culture. Twelve China time-honored brands showcased and promoted their brands including Yulou East Restaurant, Fiery Palace, Bianyifang Roast Duck Restaurant, Laozhengxing Restaurant, Zhi Weiguan restaurant, Sliced beef and ox organs in chili sauce, Yonghe Garden Restaurant, Xi'an Restaurant, Guangzhou Restaurant, Li Liangui's bacon pie, Really Different, Jianxin Park Restaurant, etc.
The online and offline promotion activities themed on "Internet + time honored brands" were held. Our center and Jingdong Supermarket jointly held the online and offline promotion activities with the theme of "Internet + time honored brands". Attending were Director of MOFCOM Circulation Industry Promotion Center Liu Decheng, Deputy Director Zhao Jian, and Deputy Director of MOFCOM Circulation Industry Development Department Yin Hong. General Manager of Jingdong Supermarket Food Department Li Changming, Director of Division of Foreign Trade of Department of Commerce of Shandong Province Zang Renfeng, Director of Circulation Department of Hunan Province promoted products as “Hometown Brand Promoters”. Attending were over 50 people including some countries’ diplomatic envoys and their representatives in China, and representatives from the competent commerce departments in various provinces and cities in China.
The China International Food & Catering Industry Innovation and Development Summit was themed on “Brand Leading, Consumption Upgrading.” MOFCOM Circulation Industry Promotion Center Liu Decheng attended the event and made a speech. Deputy Director of MOFCOM Circulation Industry Development Department Yin Hong, Brand expert, former editor-in-chief of Economic Daily Feng He, Canadian brand development expert Patricia McQuillan, General Manager of Jingdong Group Food Business Department Li Changming, Dean of Meituan Restaurant College, Chief Strategy Officer of Meituan Catering Review Industry Bai Xiufeng made keynote speeches. Deputy Director of Department of Commerce of Hunan Province Luo Shuangfeng presided over the summit. The speakers conducted analysis from the multi-dimensions such as the development of China time-honored brands, their innovation communication, and Internet-assisted brand name development, which was well received by the guests. More than 300 company representatives participated in the event.
II. Endeavor to expand medium-to-high end consumption and cultivate emerging consumption markets
This Summit started from the medium- and high-end consumption food and beverage consumption typified by coffee to promote emerging consumption, and implemented the consumption upgrading action plan from the two aspects of creating a coffee brand and cultivating consumption markets.
The Chinese Barista Team Championship was hosted. Deputy Director of MOFCOM Circulation Industry Promotion Center Zhao Jian, and the Counsellor of the Jamaican Embassy in China Ms. Campbell attended the event and delivered speeches. There were 6 groups of players participating in the competition. After two days of intense competition, Shanghai Seesaw coffee team won the championship. After the game, a special service sharing session of the champion team was held to enhance the interaction between the players and the fans, and to shorten the distance between the quality coffee consumption of famous brands and the ordinary consumers.
The Coffee and Drink Brand Development Summit Forum was held. Deputy Director of MOFCOM Circulation Industry Promotion Center Zhao Jian attended the forum and made a speech. Ms. Su Shuang from China Chain Store & Franchise Association, the person in charge of Tmall Supermarket Hu Fanyi, Mr. Pan Yuxin from Azure Capital, the person in charge of the producing area of Brazil's Cerrado coffee Ricardo, and Mr. Li Xiaodong from Pacific Coffee shared their advanced experiences from different perspectives. The forum has provided a communication and service platform for the development of related brand enterprises, and better served the mass consumption by improving brand and quality.
III. Carry forward the Belt and Road Initiative and accelerate the internationalization of food & catering industry innovation and development summit
The first China International Fishery “Air Silk Road” Development Forum was held. Head of Department of Commerce of Hunan Province Xu Xiangping, Secretary-General of China Aquatic Products Processing & Marketing Association (CAPPMA), Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Fisheries Corporation, Chairman of the Board of Directors Du Hui, Vice Mayor of Changsha Municipal People's Government Qiu Jixing, Deputy Secretary General of Changsha Municipal People's Government Wang Tizei, a member of Party Working Committee of Changsha Huanghua Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Deputy Director of the management committee Meng Lixiang attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Nearly 100 company Representatives from 21 countries and representatives of major procurement companies participated in the meeting, and jointly explored the business model of “direct shipment by chartered airplane, cross-border e-commerce, and bonded stocking.” This intends to build Changsha into a “global seafood distribution center” and construct an "Air Silk Road" for high-end seafood between China and the rest of the world.
IV. Promote the implementation of targeted poverty alleviation with the food & catering industry as its carrier.
Carrying out the requirements of the Overall Plan for Business Poverty Alleviation in 2017-2020 and the Action Plan for Business Poverty Alleviation, and relying on the platform of food &catering summit, we helped the agricultural products of the poverty-stricken areas and the poor people to “develop, go out and be trust-worthy” through ways such as e-commerce poverty alleviation and exhibition promotion. We overcame poverty through food &catering summit. A series of activities such as “poverty alleviation through e-commerce and online and offline integrated marketing launching ceremony of Xinhua County’s White Stream tofu in Hunan”, “production and marketing matchmaking meeting of e-commerce and traditional enterprise”, “I speak for poverty alleviation” were held to open the online and offline channel for high-quality food and beverage.
