The International Forum on Investment Promotion of New Materials Industry and Technology was successfully held in Shenyang on September 18. This forum is co-hosted by the Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM, the National Advisory Committee on New Materials Industry Development Strategy (NACNMIDS) and the Academic Union of Materials, co-organized by the Tianjin Institute of NACNMIDS, Chinese Overseas Science & Technology Organizations(COSTO) and the journal of Materials China.
Attending were 200 participants including 20 domestic and foreign new materials experts such as China’s famous experts in superconductor and rare metal materials, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of NACNMIDS Zhou Lian, Academician of the US National Academy of Engineering and professor of University of Michigan Jyoti Mazumder, Academician of US National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences and foreign Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Zhu Jingwu, and Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering and professor of University of Western Ontario Yang Jun, heads of the Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM and representatives from research institutes, new materials enterprises and industrial parks.
At the opening ceremony, Academician Zhou Lian and Academician Zhu Jingwu jointly started the releasing ceremony of the blue paper of the 2017 Report on New Materials Technological Development of the 13th Five Year Plan. Academician Zhou Lian said that jointly written by domestic and foreign new materials experts, this blue paper provides many constructive suggestions for the development of China’s new materials industry, they will strive to make this blue paper become China’s most professional series of reports on the new materials industry in the future and actively contribute to the development of the industry. Academician Zhu Jingwu highly praised the technology and industry matchmaking platform built by the International Forum on Investment Promotion of New Materials Industry and Technology and hoped that the new materials technology and industry will continue to achieve more progress in the future.
Director of the Investment Promotion Agency of MOFCOM Lin Ruochen noted in the his opening speech that the development of the new materials industry not only needs to enhance innovation ability and strengthen international cooperation, but also needs to optimize resources integration, promote the synergy among upstream and downstream enterprises, industrial parks, research institutes, and social capital to push ahead the commercialization and industrial application of the outcomes of the new materials technology. The Investment Promotion Agency will make full use of its international and domestic network, promote the construction of cross-border industry investment promotion platform, bring together high-quality enterprises and institutions at home and abroad, meet the needs of local industrial development, and advance regional industrial upgrading.
Vice President of the COSTO Huang Xueqi said that the COSTO is a non-profit and non-governmental institution that contacts all the Chinese organizations of science and technology in the world. Their purpose is to serve all Chinese scientists and build bridges for them to return to China to innovate and start businesses. I hope that this international forum will become an international exchange and cooperation platform to share research and serve this industry.
In the morning, the theme report session of the forum was hosted by Researcher Xu Jian, Executive Deputy Director of the NACNMIDS. Eight overseas experts discussed the additive manufacturing materials and technology and the latest technologies, standards and applications of the fields such as new energy materials.
In the field of additive manufacturing materials and technology, the US Academician Jyoti Mazumder made a report on the high-quality metal materials of additive manufacturing; Canadian Academician Yang Jun made a report on the expansion from 3D printing to 4D printing; Secretary of the National Additive Manufacturing Standardization Technical Committee Li Haibin discussed the role of the additive manufacturing standards in improving manufacturing quality; Secretary General of the ISO/TC 261 Additive Manufacturing Technical Committee Benjamin Hein shared the latest situation of formulating international standards for additive manufacturing.
In the field of new energy materials, Researcher Zhang Ningxin of the Austrian Institute of Technology discussed the prospect of artificial intelligence application in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries; Associate Professor Li Haiwen of the International Hydrogen Energy Research Center of Kyushu University shared the development prospect and strategies of hydrogen energy in Japan; Dr. Ding Wenjin of the Germany Aerospace Center introduced the new development of chloride molten salt thermal energy storage materials in solar thermal electric power generation
In the afternoon, the theme report session was hosted by Zhou Shaoxiong, a Professor of Iron and Steel Research Institute and Deputy Director of the NACNMIDS. Researcher Xu Yi, Executive Director of US Tianye Technology Co., Ltd. introduced the research, development and the latest application of new functional materials and self-propagating high-temperature synthesis technology; Chairman Wang Rongzhen of the Association of Chinese Chemists and Chemical Engineers in Germany shared the development history, models and future planning of German new materials industry; Dr. Shi Yuan of the German Aerospace Center discussed the characterization and simulation of the mechanical properties of ceramic matrix composites.
After the meeting, the representatives had in-depth discussions with overseas experts on new materials technology and industrial application. They believe that organized by the Investment Promotion Agency of the Ministry of Commerce and the NACNMIDS, the International Forum on New Materials established an effective communication platform for enterprises, governments, academies and research institutions. Materials enterprises, universities, research institutes, industrial parks and investment institutions at home and abroad had in-depth exchanges, which will further promote the future investment cooperation and industrial application of Chinese and overseas advanced new materials technologies.
